There is genuine bad blood between Chris Eubank Jr and Liam Williams as the pair square off in Cardiff on Saturday night in a thrilling all-British middleweight showdown that promises to catch fire. The tension between the fighters has threatened to boil on several occasions throughout fight week, just a matter of months after the bout was signed following a series of foul-mouthed exchanges on Twitter.
This will be Williams’ first outing under new trainer Adam Booth after he parted company with Dominic Ingle at the back end of 2021.
The pulsating domestic bout was initially penciled in for December 11 but the Welshman was forced to withdraw with a reoccurring shoulder problem.
Williams’ injury has bargained him some extra time in the gym with Booth, who coincidentally, also trains Eubank’s cousin Harlem – also on the card – in Surrey.
The 29-year-old was last in action in April when he challenged Demetrius Andrade for the WBO middleweight world title – losing by unanimous decision.
It was a tough 2021 for Eubank Jr, who suffered with COVID and also tragically lost his brother Sebastian in July.
However, in the ring there was progress after 17 months of inactivity.
Eubank beat Marcus Morrison by UD in Manchester before securing another victory against Wanik Awdijan in Newcastle in October after his fight with Anatoli Muratov was waved off due to concerns surrounding his opponent’s pre-fight medical.
The Englishman does have a rematch clause written into the fight contract as the winner looks to move on towards a world title shot later in the year.
American sensation Claressa Shields, Caroline Dubois and Geordie heavyweight Steve Robinson also feature on the card.
