“Welcome to our family, Liana. Having you with us is the most beautiful and overwhelming feeling we could have ever imagined,” Kerber wrote on Instagram on Tuesday under a black and white picture of three hands, including that of a baby.

According to her post, Liana was born last Saturday to Kerber and her partner Franco Bianco.

Kerber, a former world No.1, made her pregnancy public last August and because of that she didn’t compete in the 2022 US Open and in this year’s Australian Open.

Kerber, 35, was Australian Open champion in 2016 and also triumphed at the US Open (2016) and Wimbledon (2018).

She has given no timeline for her return to the courts.

“For me it’s clear, that I will return to the tour, when I’m fit and feeling ready,” she said last year.

“But I want to come back as soon as possible.”

Fans and former and current tennis players took to social media to offer their congratulations.

“Congratulations! So happy for you,” former world No. 1 Ana Ivanovic commented.

“Congratulations!,” the official WTA Instagram account wrote, followed by a purple love heart.

“its heeeereeeeeee! congratulation dear!!! sending a lots of love,” former tennis player Dominika Cibulkova said, along with love heart emojis and praying hands.

“How great all the best,” Sabine Lisicki wrote, along with a smiling face and three love hearts.
