One of Australia’s greatest tennis players, Ash Barty shocked the sporting world when she announced her retirement from the game in March this year.
Since her time away from tennis, Barty has kept herself busy, competing at the Icons Golf Series in New Jersey and even writing a memoir.
Alongside her memoir which will be released in November, the three-time Grand Slam singles champion will now also be releasing four children’s books.

The four-book series titled Little Ash is inspired by Barty’s youngest niece Lucy.
“She’s six years old, a book worm, absolutely loves it and she’s just going through that age where she’s growing and learning so much and it reminded me of what I was like as a kid,” Barty told Sunrise.
“So this is always something I wanted to do, and not just (to) encourage kids to try different sports through my stories and through my experiences as a kid, but to continue their education through reading.”
The book series draws on the tennis star’s own experiences, featuring some of her biggest idols such as Cathy Freeman and Evonne Goolagong-Cawley, and focuses on dealing with the challenges life delivers.
“It’s funny how those memories stick fast with you from when you are a kid,” the self-described bookworm said.
“Some of the biggest moments, they feel so overpowering and overwhelming.
“They’re just another learning curve and I think being able to look back now and connect those dots now, you know hopefully then teach those kids to read a bit, laugh a bit, smile a bit and not sweat the small stuff and just enjoy the ride.”
Of her upcoming memoir, Barty said it was hard reliving particular moments from her past.
“Going back through the times where I was understanding the reasons as to why I stopped for the first time in my career … that was really hard to go over and there’s still a few more pieces we need to put together for that part,” she said.
“Just because I wanna – I’ve always wanted it to be authentic and honest.
“The end product is gonna be so incredible and something that the team that we’ve got around us are gonna be so proud of the way that we put it together.”
