Olympic champion Belinda Bencic has won the WTA’s Charleston Open in South Carolina, beating Ons Jabeur in a see-saw three-set encounter.
Bencic, 25, claimed her maiden WTA clay-court crown by beating Tunisian fourth-seed Jabeur 6-1 5-7 6-4 in two hours and 35 minutes.
Bencic, who beat Marketa Vondrousova to claim Olympic gold in Tokyo last summer, won her sixth WTA tour title and will climb up to world No.13 from 21st in the rankings.
Jabeur, who will move up one spot in the rankings to 9th, was outplayed in the opening set and lost her first service game in the second, but hit back before Bencic won the crucial points in the topsy-turvy decider.
